Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War Bundle Hits Switch 2 This Month

Did you hear? More Lord of the Rings games are coming to Switch 2, and they're two of the best. Aspyr Media announced on September 22—which just happens to be Frodo and Bilbo's shared birthday—that Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor's Game of the Year edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War's definitive edition are heading to Nintendo's new console. They'll be bundled together as the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle, launching September 30 for $70.

But here's the sweet part: the bundle is half off through October 6 at 2:59 AM ET, bringing it down to just $35. That's two massive open-world action games for the price of one, and you get all the extra content from each game's DLC model—story missions, skins, weapons, and gear sets. Aspyr didn't share any technical specifics for the Switch 2 versions, so we don't know about performance or resolution yet, but the extra content alone makes this a solid deal.

This isn't Aspyr's first rodeo with Middle-earth. The publisher kicked off its re-release tour back in August with the Legacy Edition of 2011's The Lord of the Rings: War in the North. At the time, Aspyr said it planned to bring even more older Lord of the Rings games back, and now we're seeing that promise fulfilled. Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War were developed by Monolith Productions—fans had hoped for a third game, but Warner Bros. Games shut the studio down in 2025. So these re-releases are a bittersweet way to revisit that beloved series.

But wait, there's more on the horizon. Brand-new Lord of the Rings games are in the works, including a "deeply immersive" RPG from Warhorse, the studio behind Kingdom Come. Crystal Dynamics, known for Tomb Raider, is also said to be developing one. And outside of gaming, Warner Bros. recently dropped photos from the next Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum, showing Elijah Wood back in costume as Frodo. That film hits theaters in December 2027.
