Ace Attorney Fans Fume Over VR-Exclusive Dual Destinies

Did you wake up today expecting a new Ace Attorney game? Well, you got one—sort of. At Meta Connect 2026, Capcom announced Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Dual Destinies VR, a virtual reality version of the 2013 Nintendo 3DS title. But here's the catch: it's exclusive to Meta VR Glasses, Meta Quest 3/3s, Quest Pro, and Quest 2, and it won't launch until 2027. Oh, and it's only on the Meta Horizon Store. So if you were hoping for a traditional Ace Attorney 7, you might want to sit down.

Fans have been waiting for a proper sequel since Spirit of Justice (Ace Attorney 6) launched in June 2016. That's over a decade of waiting, and the announcement of a VR remake of a 13-year-old game didn't exactly thrill the community. The official trailer on YouTube had comments turned off, but that didn't stop fans from venting on Reddit. "Anything but AA7, or honestly anything that makes sense," one fan wrote. Another simply said, "This has to be a sick joke." The disappointment is real, and you can feel it in every comment.

Some fans are trying to keep their sense of humor. "Do I laugh or cry. because we GOT SOMETHING. But it's VR. With META. Line up guys I'm fixing all our clown makeup, the tears are ruining it," one person joked. Others are more blunt: "Bro it's actually over no joke, dead franchise." It's a mix of frustration and despair, and honestly, you can't blame them. After all, they've been asking for Ace Attorney 7 for years, and instead, they're getting a VR port of a game they've already played.

So what exactly is Dual Destinies VR? According to Capcom, the 3DS original has been "rebuilt for VR." You can shout "OBJECTION!" out loud and use hand tracking to call out witnesses and present evidence. You'll also "walk through" 3D crime scenes, pick up evidence, and examine it from every angle to build your case. The official blurb even asks, "Who doesn't want to act out the iconic cover image of the game?" It sounds like a fun novelty, but it's not the new entry fans are clamoring for.

For now, the wait for Ace Attorney 7 continues. Capcom hasn't said a word about a proper sequel, and this VR side project might be the only Ace Attorney content we get for a while.
