Star Wars Zero Company Patch 1.2 Adds XCOM-Style Difficulty Options

Ever felt like Star Wars Zero Company was a bit too smooth compared to the XCOM classics? You're not alone, and the developers have heard you. Patch 1.2 just dropped, and it's bringing a whole new way to crank up the challenge.

The headline addition is a granular difficulty system that sits alongside the existing easy, normal, hard, and ironman beskarboy modes. Instead of just beefing up enemies, these options let you tweak specific rules to make the game harder in creative ways. For example, you can remove the injury system entirely, so downed operatives are instantly killed. Or you can lower the injury allowance before permadeath kicks in, and even add a risk of death when an operative gets downed.

That's not all. You can also lower or eliminate health scaling, making your squad more fragile by the end of the game. And if you really want to restrict your options, you can limit the respec function by degrees, removing class and even weapon swapping. These are sharp, targeted changes that force you to think and play more creatively rather than just grinding through inflated enemy health bars.

Our own take? These modifiers are a brilliant way to add replayability. Mixing a few of them into the default difficulty might just be more interesting than the shipped hard mode. They remind us of survival mode in an RPG or skulls in Halo—creative difficulty options that actually change how you approach the game.

Of course, Zero Company already had a reasonable skill ceiling, but this modular suite lets you tweak pain points without jumping to a full difficulty level. For those who found the game a bit too smooth, this update should be a welcome relief. The only remaining disconnect for some tactics purists is fog of war—Zero Company shows you the full map and enemy locations on every mission, unlike XCOM. But that's a debate for another day.

Overall, this is a big win for developer Bit Reactor, especially after the game's critical and commercial success, which has reportedly led to furloughed employees being brought back. So, will you be diving back in with these new options? What difficulty tweaks are you most excited to try? Let us know!
