McDonald's Halo Skin: A Happy Meal for Master Chief?

McDonald's UK and Ireland are giving away a new Halo: Campaign Evolved skin, but is it worth the points? We break down the bland armor and what it means for fans.

McDonald's Halo Skin: A Happy Meal for Master Chief?

Ever thought a Big Mac could get you closer to Master Chief? Well, in the UK and Ireland, it kind of can. McDonald's has teamed up with Xbox to offer a special armor set for Halo: Campaign Evolved, and it's... something.

The skin, called Side Mission, is mostly red and gray with a yellow visor and some flourishes. You can snag it for 1,500 rewards points in the McDonald's app. That's the same tier that gets you a free apple pie or small coffee in the US. So, you're basically trading a dessert for a digital suit of armor.

Now, we could laugh about the irony of a Master Chief skin in a game that's mostly first-person. Sure, Halo: Campaign Evolved lets you switch to third-person, but still. Or we could point out that this armor looks like a palette swap you'd expect to customize in the game's menu. It's not exactly groundbreaking.

But the real issue? It's bland. If you're going to make a McDonald's-themed skin, go all in. Slap the golden arches on Chief's helmet, or make the visor look like Ronald McDonald. Give it some personality! As it stands, Side Mission is about as exciting as a plain burger.

And this isn't just a one-off. The collaboration covers other Xbox titles like Forza Horizon 6, Fallout 76, Candy Crush Saga, World of Warcraft, and Overwatch. So, there's a whole menu of rewards to unlock.

GameSpot has reached out to McDonald's about bringing this to other regions, but nothing's confirmed yet. For now, only our friends across the pond get to enjoy this... unique offering.

So, what do you think? Would you trade your apple pie for this skin, or is it a hard pass? Let us know in the comments!
