Did you think Diablo 4 was going to keep you busy for the next few years? Surprise — Blizzard is already deep into Diablo 5.
Game Director Joe Shely has confirmed that the next entry in the iconic action RPG series is officially in full production and coming in 2029. That's right, we're getting a proper numbered sequel, and it's moving full steam ahead.
But what can you actually expect from Diablo 5? Shely shared a few tantalizing details. For starters, the game will feature more classes than we've seen before — though he didn't specify exactly how many or what they are. More classes means more ways to slice, burn, and obliterate the legions of Hell, so that's already a win in our book.
Another big change: procedural worlds. That suggests a shift toward more dynamic, replayable environments rather than the fixed layouts of previous entries. If done right, it could make every playthrough feel fresh. And then there's the timeline — Diablo 5 will jump 100 years into the future. That's a massive leap, which means a whole new era for Sanctuary, new threats, and likely some very different takes on familiar lore.
Of course, a 2029 release date means we're still a long way out. But the fact that the game is in full production — not just pre-production or concept — is a strong signal that Blizzard is committed to making this happen. It also lines up with the studio's history of long development cycles for its flagship franchises.
So what does this mean for Diablo 4? It's still very much alive, and with Diablo 5 on the horizon, you can bet Blizzard will keep supporting it for years to come. But the future of the series is already taking shape, and it sounds ambitious.
More classes, procedural worlds, and a century-long time jump — that's a recipe for something big. Will it live up to the legacy of Diablo 2 or the modern feel of Diablo 4? Only time will tell.
What do you think about a 100-year time jump? And which class do you want to see return? Let us know in the comments — we're just as hyped as you are.
