Rainbow Six Mobile Is Shutting Down Less Than a Year After Launch

Did you just get into Rainbow Six Mobile? Well, we've got some rough news. Ubisoft has announced that the game is shutting down, and it's happening shockingly soon.

Rainbow Six Mobile first soft-launched back in 2023, but it didn't fully roll out for everyone until February 2026. Now it's set to go offline on January 16, 2027. Do the math and that's less than a year of full availability. That's a brutally short lifespan for a game that had so much hype behind it.

Ubisoft shared a heartfelt message about the shutdown. "We are proud of the passion, creativity, and dedication our team has put into the game," the team said. "One of the greatest parts of this adventure has been getting to experience it alongside you. We've loved seeing the memes, videos, strategies, tournaments, impossible plays, and all the countless moments that happened because you were here." It's clear the devs genuinely appreciated the community that formed around the game, even if it didn't last as long as anyone hoped.

So what's next for the team? According to Ubisoft, the developers are moving on to "other long-term strategic projects." The company didn't specify what those projects are, so we're left guessing for now. The studio also promised to share more details about the game's final days in the coming weeks, so at least players will get some closure.

"We are truly grateful to everyone who has played our game," the developers added. It's a sad ending for a title that tried to bring the Rainbow Six Siege experience to your phone. Siege itself is still going strong more than a decade after release, so the mobile spin-off had big shoes to fill.

Looking ahead, the next Rainbow Six game is Rainbow Six Tactics, and it's slated to arrive next year. So the franchise isn't going anywhere, even if the mobile experiment is winding down.

It's also worth noting that this has been a bumpy year for Ubisoft overall. The company created a new organizational structure through its partnership with Tencent, and as part of that shift, it enacted mass layoffs, closed studios, and cancelled games. Rainbow Six Mobile's shutdown is just one piece of a much larger period of change for the publisher.

Will you be hopping in for one last match before January 16, 2027? What do you think about Rainbow Six Mobile calling it quits so soon? Let us know in the comments.
